We have completed the common toad sampling. In accordance with the objectives of our project, samples were collected from urban and rural ponds in and near Krakow area, as well as in the Tricity area.

We needed to collect about twenty individuals of the common toad from each pond. Then we swabbed their skin. These samples will allow us to study the toads' skin microbiome, focusing on bacteria, fungi and pathogenic Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) infection, as planned in WP4.
Furthermore, by obtaining biological material, we will be able to use the genomic scan approach to detect repeatable changes in allele frequencies across urban-rural populations. This research is included in WP3 of the ECOPOND project.
Soon we will also complete the sampling and swabbing of common newts – the second amphibian species which is a research object in our project.
