We have started water sampling for research within our project. In the second week of April, as scheduled, our team from the University of Łódź, headed by Karolina Bącela-Spychalska, started taking samples from ponds in Krakow and its surroundings.
Water was sampled from about 10-15 points around each pond. Each time approximately 250 ml of water was taken, from depths of 20 and 80cm. The water from all sampling points was then mixed to filter out eDNA and eRNA. The particles retained on the filters will then be analysed in the UL laboratory to provide detailed information on the species biodiversity of the ponds, as assumed in WP1.
Samples were collected from the following locations:

Water and sediments samples from the same ponds were also taken for the analysis of chemical parameters, which will be conducted by the J.S. Hamilton laboratory. These analyses will provide additional information giving us a broader context for understanding the biodiversity differences between urban and rural ponds.
Further samplings are planned to take place in and around Łódź and Trójmiasto.
